The
new owner of a Telford engineering company is hoping to build on
its solid foundations by exploiting his foreign connections.
Don
Lovejoy has taken charge of
Weldwell UK Ltd, a 25 year old firm based on the St George's Road
Industrial Estate, which manufactures skips, trolleys and pallets
for customers in heavy industry.
In
doing so, he has safeguarded 11 jobs, and he hopes his contacts
in Eastern Europe will help the company add to its customer base
– mainly in the defence and environmental sectors – and expand the
workforce.
He
has also found new premises – at Tweedale, seven miles from Weldwell's
current base – after the existing site was sold.
Don
Lovejoy said: “My first job
was to find a new site which suits our needs and gives us room to
expand.
“We
have a good number of loyal regular customers, including some multi-nationals,
but I am looking to build on that using my contacts in Poland and
elsewhere.”
Mr
Lovejoy, a Church Stretton-based management consultant, has worked
with a number of engineering and manufacturing companies including
Shropshire lock manufacturer Lowe and Fletcher and street lighting
firm The David Webster Group.
The
53-year-old has 30 years' experience in the field, and his previous
roles have seen him establish export links with Canada, India, Eastern
Europe and the Middle East .
Details
of Weldwell UK 's product range can be found on their website: www.weldwell.co.uk.
The company also offers a bespoke service to suit the customer's
exact requirements.
