Prolific
young author Dominic Took is putting the finishing touches to his
third book – despite being only 20!
The
Staffordshire University student, who lives in Stafford but originates
from Macclesfield, is looking for a publishing company to release
his latest novel, called ‘The Voices of Light and Dark'.
The
145-page book is a radical departure from his last offering ‘The
Storms of Acias', a coming of age story set on the fictional planet
of Acias.
Dominic
said: “My latest story is very different from ‘The Storms of Acias',
which was a fantasy story. This is more of a science fiction thriller,
and is much faster paced.”
It's
another major project for Dominic, who divides his time between
writing, running online game development company Transient Innovations,
and his degree course in Computer Games Design and Game Programming.
He
said: “I have always enjoyed writing and started putting my stories
down on paper when I was six or seven. When ‘The Voices of Light
and Dark' is finished, it will be my third book, and I have plenty
of ideas for more.
“It's
hard to promote the book as much as I'd like because of my other
commitments, but my last one, ‘The Storm of Acias', did quite well
so hopefully this one will too.
“What's
more important to me though is conveying emotion, and challenging
myself to reveal more about human beings and humanity. And being
able to challenge my writing style to bring out more interesting
features that are part of a person or a society's way of life.
“If
I ever had the chance to write for a living it would be my dream
job. My aim is to be as successful as Tom Clancy, who is a famous
writer and game developer.
“I
hope to continue writing and trying to achieve a sense of connection
with those that read my books, so that I have conveyed something
to them and it has made them think differently about themselves,
or others.”
‘The
Storms of Acias' was first published last December and is available
through websites like Amazon ( www.amazon.co.uk
) and WH Smith ( www.whsmith.co.uk
), and can be ordered from retailers including Waterstone's.
Dominic
is currently planning the sequel, which he hopes will be out in
2008.
