Daredevils
from various BNI chapters tested themselves to the limit at an unusual
confidence workshop… by walking on red-hot coals!
Members
of the Stone, Izaac Walton and Dove groups congregated for the firewalking
session, which was held at Lower Drayton Farm in Penkridge, Staffordshire.
The
event was organised by coaching company the Academy of High Achievers
(Aha!), to discover exactly what can be achieved with the right
mindset and preparation.
Director
Tony Burgess said: “Most people assume walking on hot coals will
be extremely dangerous, but if the person is in the right frame
of mind it can be an inspiring and life-enhancing experience.
“We
prepare everyone thoroughly, to help them understand just how much
control they have over their attitude, thinking and states such
as confidence.
“All
these factors significantly affect the outcomes people generate
in their lives and their businesses, so the positive consequences
of the learning is far-reaching.
“Firewalking
is a highly symbolic act which is designed to make people realise
how much they can achieve – because let's face it, if they can walk
on fire, they can do anything.”
Walking
on hot coals, also known as firewalking, is an ancient practice
which was common in a number of diverse cultures including Native
American and Viking. Many Christian saints are also believed to
have firewalked.
It
was intended to ‘honour the element of fire and bring healing to
their communities' [1] . It
is one of the oldest human rituals in the world.
